The Challenge
A Canadian EdTech startup was preparing to launch a citizenship test preparation web app and needed a logo that could carry the weight of their brand from day one. The brief was precise: minimal, flat, and modern — a SaaS-style mark that would feel at home alongside polished digital products while remaining approachable to a diverse audience navigating a high-stakes civic process. The complexity lay in balancing two competing demands. On one hand, the logo needed the clean, stripped-back aesthetic that tech-savvy users expect from a modern web platform. On the other, it had to convey trust, clarity, and a sense of civic identity without falling into clichéd maple leaf territory. Getting that balance right required more than technical skill — it required genuine understanding of how visual identity functions within a digital product context.
Our Approach
Helion360 began by mapping the brand's core positioning: an accessible, user-friendly platform serving newcomers to Canada who are preparing for an important milestone. The design direction prioritised typographic clarity and geometric simplicity, avoiding decorative elements that would age poorly or feel out of place within a SaaS UI environment. The team explored mark concepts that subtly nodded to Canadian identity and the idea of readiness or progress, without leaning on overused national symbols. Each concept was evaluated against digital-first criteria — how the logo would render at small sizes, on dark and light backgrounds, within browser tabs, and across mobile interfaces. Colour palette decisions were made to feel confident and modern while remaining neutral enough to work across the full product ecosystem. Refinement rounds focused on ensuring the final mark felt purposeful rather than decorative, with every element earning its place in the composition.
The Outcome
The final logo delivered a clean, flat wordmark-and-icon combination that positioned the platform credibly within the competitive EdTech and civic tech space. The mark scaled elegantly across all intended touchpoints — from the web app header and favicon to marketing materials and social profiles. The client received the logo in all standard formats, including vector source files and optimised exports for both web and print use, along with light and dark mode variants. The design gave the product a polished, launch-ready visual identity that aligned with the team's broader branding goals and communicated professionalism to first-time visitors.
Helion360 brings this same rigour to every logo engagement — ensuring the final mark is not just visually strong, but strategically sound for the platform it represents.
