The Research Challenge
Expanding an Amazon product catalog sounds straightforward — until you factor in the complexity of validating demand, evaluating competition, and building a sourcing strategy around Chinese manufacturers, all within a week. That was the challenge in front of us when this engagement began.
The client needed more than a list of trending products. They needed a structured process that could surface real opportunities — products with genuine demand, limited saturation, and margins that made China sourcing worthwhile. Speed was essential, but accuracy could not be sacrificed.
How We Structured the Work
Helion360 approached this project in three distinct phases, moving from market-level analysis down to individual product-level economics.
We began by scanning Amazon search data to identify product categories showing consistent, high-intent volume. From there, we narrowed the field by analyzing competition — looking at seller count, review density, price clustering, and estimated sales velocity. Products that appeared oversaturated or margin-thin were filtered out early.
The final phase focused on cost modeling. For each shortlisted product, we built a pricing framework that accounted for Chinese supplier pricing, shipping and import costs, Amazon platform fees, and target net margins. This gave the client a realistic picture of what each product would actually return — not just what it might sell for.
We also cross-referenced Amazon's compliance requirements and category restrictions throughout the process, ensuring every recommendation was platform-viable from the start.
What Was Delivered
At the end of the engagement, the client received a complete sourcing research report with multiple product opportunities, each backed by demand data, competitive analysis, and a cost-to-margin model. The report included supplier category guidance for China, recommended price positioning, and prioritization notes.
The client moved forward with two product lines identified in our research, with a clear sourcing roadmap already in place. The structured format of the deliverable also made it easy to revisit and update as new data became available — a practical asset beyond the initial project.
